Rebuilt on Anthropic’s Claude and launched June 3, 2026, Penny can take a natural language request — dates, destinations, budget, preferences — and surface flight, hotel, and rental car options without requiring you to navigate the platform’s standard search interface. Booking happens within the conversation, not on a separate page. This makes Penny the first major OTA to deliver fully agentic booking natively, rather than through browser automation layered on top of a booking site.
Penny isn’t new. Priceline has had a chatbot assistant for years. What launched June 3 is a rebuild. Claude handles conversational reasoning and planning. OpenAI supports voice capabilities. Both features are doing something that filter-based search can’t: showing the reasoning behind a recommendation, not just the recommendation itself. A ranked hotel list tells you which ones scored highest on some algorithm. Penny’s Take tells you why the top result fits what you described. That’s a real improvement for trip planning decisions.
The Claude + OpenAI + Google Cloud stack is worth understanding because it’s different from every other AI travel tool on the market right now.
MindTrip, for comparison, is an AI-native startup with a single GDS partnership (Sabre Mosaic) for inventory rather than a major OTA with native inventory access. Booking completion is native — Penny isn’t handing off to a separate checkout flow, it’s completing the reservation within the conversation.
The constraint Operator and Mariner don’t have: Penny only works within Priceline’s inventory. Browser agents can go anywhere. Penny goes to Priceline. For flights especially, travelers who want to compare across multiple OTAs won’t get that through Penny — a quick Google Flights check against what Penny surfaces is worth 60 seconds before confirming.

Travelers making hotel decisions — this is where Penny adds the most value. Hotels involve tradeoffs that standard filter search handles badly: actual proximity to where you need to be, what recent reviews say about specific concerns, whether amenities listed actually apply to the room type you’d book.
